The Chinese Temple is modeled after a real temple that I saw in Hong Kong.  It was a wonderful and strange place, to me, so unlike the sterile places of worship I was used to.  Huge coils of incense hung from the rafters and the air was thick with aromatic smoke.  People were coming and going freely and there didn't seem to be any organization that I could tell. There were immense statues and little ones too, paper things being burned and flowers strewn about.

The Hong Kong temple was one of the few old things I saw in a city of modern sky scrapers and incredibly engineered multi-level highways.  I remember feeling so fortunate to have been able to see it, and especially to go inside.  When I came back out into the fresh air and light, I recall seeing a tour bus full of people staring at the building through the gate, and I felt sorry for them, for they couldn't have known what they were missing.

The Chinese Temple houses little figurines and mementos of an oriental nature, and of course I keep adding to it as things come my way.
