The Orchard Quilt has a pieced background to indicate the hillside landscape, with hand stitched branches and stuffed leaves appliqued to it.  The hexagonal blocks were hand quilted, and then hand stitched together.  The fabrics are all in spring colors, of soft cottons, and the quilt is very soothing to the touch.  While I was making it I lived out in the country, and every day passed my neighbor's hillside, covered in blossoming apple trees.
