The Summer Quilt is a single layer cover, meant for sleeping under on the hottest nights of the year.  I chose the old fashioned floral cottons to seem like a quilt you might remember from your grandmother's house, when you would visit the old farm in the summer time.  They are arranged so the the bed looks light and inviting, with the shades increasing in depth around the outside edges.

The seams are sewn to the front, and hidden under a collection of ribbons of many colors and patterns.  They were also chosen for their old-fashioned feel.  I like for my quilts to not seem dated, and for it to be hard to tell exactly when they were made.

All stitching was done by machine;  it took much longer to arrange the blocks on the quilt wall for the soft gradation, than it took to make up the quilt!
