All That Remains of a Summers Day

Many artists have created a work of art in reaction to the events of September 11, 2001, and this is mine.

I remember so clearly where I was that day... as almost everyone does.  I was staying in a country cabin, and when the phone rang with my partner telling me the news, I was looking out the window at the hillside.  I could see a clutch of wild turkeys grazing through the late summer field, the gentle wind blowing, and what I was being told seemed so far away and unreal.  For the next two days I did nothing but cut and trim and paste flowers and leaves into this memorial wreath, my mind in shock as my hands took refuge in work.

16" x 20"

The collage is created from antique cynatype specimen photographs.
